Imagine a car designed to shake up the world of electric performance vehicles. That’s exactly what Hyundai is doing with the Ioniq 5 N, and now they’ve got a track-only version called the Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup. Recently showcased at the Hyundai N Festival in Seoul, this racecar boasts a cool new look, a sportier setup, and is lighter than its regular road-going cousin.

Starting with the exterior, the eN1 comes with a more noticeable bumper, bigger air intakes, and a fresh splitter. It’s got wider fenders on the sides, a fixed rear spoiler, and a big diffuser at the back. And inside, they’ve made sure it’s safe with an FIA-approved roll cage.

More importantly, This Cup version is shedding some weight—200-250 kg lighter to be exact. They’re using fancy materials like polycarbonate for the windows and ditching anything that’s not needed on the track. This weight loss is expected to boost its performance, even though it might still be on the heavy side for a racecar.

They’ve also tweaked the suspension, bringing the eN1 closer to the ground by 50-70 mm. It’s got a stiffer setup specifically for the track. And let’s talk tires—brand new racing slicks and an air jack lift for quick pit stops. The brakes are no joke either, with 6-piston calipers at the front and 4-piston ones at the back.

They’re keeping it a bit of a mystery, but it looks like the eN1 will stick with the dual electric motors of the regular Ioniq 5 N, packing a punch of up to 641 hp in N Grin Boost mode. The battery, a decent 84 kWh, will get extra protection and some high-voltage warnings.

Hyundai has some cool features for the racing teams too. A special version of the N Active Sound+ system lets them choose fake exhaust sounds. And drivers get to play with the N Grin Boost for that extra kick during overtaking, plus the N e-Shift function for virtual gears.

According to the folks at Car Scene Korea, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car should be ready by February 2024. The big racing debut? That’s set for May 2024, as part of a fresh single-car series in Korea. Get ready for some thrilling action on the track!
