Meet Scar King: The Orangutan Villain in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Scar King is a really old orangutan who seems to rule over Hollow Earth. He’s the main bad guy in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Godzilla x Kong

After Godzilla vs. Kong, the movie needed a new villain since Mechagodzilla was defeated. Director Adam Wingard explained to IGN how they came up with Scar King, a tricky character who could take on both Godzilla and Kong is a tall order.

“We wanted a bad guy who could match Kong and Godzilla, and that’s not easy. There’s more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s something that’s going to be fun to reveal gradually.”

We don’t know much about Scar King yet, but it looks like he’s the king of Hollow Earth, as teased in the latest trailer. Just like how Ghidorah was an ancient enemy of Godzilla in King of The Monsters, Scar King might be the old villain who gave Kong’s ancestors a tough time on Skull Island. The posters and trailers suggest Scar King is really old, maybe hundreds of years.

In Godzilla x Kong, Scar King is set to be defeated by Kong, making Kong the official “King Kong.” More hints about Scar King and Kong’s backstory are in the official synopsis of The New Empire:

“The new movie continues the big clash between Godzilla and Kong, throwing them against a huge hidden threat in our world that challenges their existence and ours. The film explores more about these Titans, where they come from, the mysteries of Skull Island, and beyond. It uncovers the big battle that shaped these amazing beings and connected them to humans forever.”
