Artist Imroz Passes Away

Imroz, the respected artist and poet, left us at 97, succumbing to health issues related to his age. Despite relying on a feeding tube, his love for Amrita was unwavering. He disliked hearing about her in the past tense, insisting, Amrita hai, yahin hai (Amrita is right here). Even though Imroz is no longer with us physically, his connection with Amrita lives on in the heavens, a love story that transcends the limits of our physical world. Getting to Know Imroz

Born as Indrajeet on January 26, 1927, in Lyallpur, undivided Punjab, Imroz embarked on a significant journey when he joined Amrita for her magazine, Naagmani, in 1966. Changing his name from Indrajeet to Imroz during this time, he turned to poetry when Amrita’s health declined. After her passing, Imroz kept her memory alive through his poems, dedicating four poetry books to Amrita. Notably, Jashan Jaari Hai earned him an award. He also wrote Manchaaha Hi Rishta and Ang Tere Mere.

In a poem called Amrita, Imroz beautifully expressed, Kabhi kabhi khoobsurat khyaal, khoobsurat badan bhi akhtiyaar kar lete hain…(Sometimes, beautiful thoughts also take the form of beautiful bodies). A testament to the depth of his feelings and expressions.
