In an audio recording, Nawaz Modi, the estranged wife of Gautam Singhania, chairman of the Raymond Group, alleges that she nearly fainted. Despite her condition, she claims that the industrialist compelled her to embark on a trek to the Tirupati temple.

Nawaz Modi, the estranged wife of Raymond Group Chairman Gautam Singhania, has accused him of compelling her to trek to the Tirupati temple without access to food and water, adding to a series of allegations against the billionaire industrialist. In an emerged audio clip, Modi asserts that Singhania initially promised to visit the Tirupati temple in the hill town of Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, with her if she agreed to marry him. However, according to Modi, he later forced her to endure the challenging climb without provisions.
“He made me walk all those steps. I don’t know how many steps there are, but I walked all the way up to Tirupati without food, water, nothing… I nearly fainted two or three times. He didn’t seem to care. He still made me walk up,” she is heard saying in the audio clip.
Gautam Singhania, a known devotee of Lord Venkateswara to whom the Tirupati temple is dedicated, has been actively involved in philanthropy, including a significant donation of Rs 100 crore for the construction of a new temple in Mumbai. He is also associated with educational institutions run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the temple board.

“The reason he is such a big bhakt (of Lord Venkateswara) and not of any other god is because that is the god of money,” Nawaz smirk.

Gautam Singhania, aged 58, is renowned for his opulent lifestyle, with a penchant for luxury cars and yachts. The recent publicized separation from Nawaz Modi, as announced on social media this month, gained considerable attention, especially when she asserted her claim for 75 percent of his estimated net worth of Rs 11,658 crore. In a revealing interview, she further accused the industrialist of assaulting her and their daughter in September.
According to Modi, “Gautam beat up, smashed up, kicked, punched his minor daughter Niharika and myself for something which felt like about 15 minutes… unrelentingly. This was around five in the morning, after his birthday party, which was on September 9. He suddenly left the scene of the attack and disappeared. I could only imagine that he was going to get his guns or weapons.”
Gautam Singhania, when approached for comment on these allegations, declined to respond, stating, “In the interest of my two beautiful daughters, I would like to maintain my family’s dignity, and I will refrain from offering any comment. Please respect my privacy,” as conveyed to India Today.
