Karan recalled the early days, saying, “I remember when Alia first came, both of you messaged me that she shouldn’t be cast. One of you thought she was too young. But during a photoshoot three months later, she remained calm despite your reservations. She didn’t look at either of you, maybe shy or self-conscious. After that shoot, I was convinced in the very first shot.”
He further disclosed that Varun used to show him pictures of alternative actresses, urging him to reconsider casting decisions. However, Karan stuck to his choice.
Looking back at ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012, despite its moderate box office success, the film launched three actors into the industry. Post the film, Alia and Siddharth were romantically linked, co-starring in Kapoor and Sons, while Alia and Varun collaborated in Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Kalank.
