SHARMILA TAGORE’S FIGHT WITH CANCER

Did you know Sharmila Tagore was first asked to play the role Shabana Azmi did in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani? This news came out on Koffee With Karan 8, where director Karan expressed his regret about not working with Sharmila.

In the show, Karan shared that he had offered Sharmila the part of Alia Bhatt’s grandmother. Unfortunately, because of health reasons, Sharmila had to say no, and the role went to Shabana Azmi. “I wanted Sharmila ji for the role Shabana Azmi played in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. She was my first choice, but she couldn’t say yes due to health issues. It’s something I feel sorry about,” said Karan.

Talking about why she declined, Sharmila explained, “This happened during the peak of the Covid pandemic. We didn’t fully understand the virus, and there was no vaccine. After dealing with cancer, I wasn’t vaccinated, and they didn’t want to take any risks.” This was the first time Sharmila talked about her cancer journey.
