REC Foundation and Amazon Partner to Bring Robotics Fun to Native American Students!

REC Foundation and Amazon Partner: The REC Foundation and Amazon are teaming up for the 4th annual Southwest Native American Showcase happening from November 16-18, 2023, in Whiteriver, Arizona. This event is a great chance for students to show off their robotics skills and try to win a spot at the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship, the biggest robotics competition in the world.

Together with Amazon, Indigitize, an organization making computer science easy for Indigenous communities, and Google, this partnership shows a shared commitment to helping Native American and Indigenous students learn about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and prepare for jobs in these fields.

At the 4th annual Southwest Native American Showcase, over 250 students from different tribes in Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma will compete for several days. Amazon’s generous support is really important, making sure these teams and their coaches can be part of this event without having to pay. Without this partnership, many of these tribes might miss out on this amazing experience.

“We’re excited to team up with Amazon, with extra support from Indigitize and Google, to create great opportunities for Native American and Indigenous students in robotics. This partnership is all about closing the gap in STEM education and giving these communities the tools and support they need to do well,” said Dan Mantz, CEO of the REC Foundation. “Together, we can inspire and get these students ready for jobs in technology.” More info about REC Foundation and Amazon Partner to Bring Robotics Fun to Native American Students!

Thanks to these partnerships, the support will cover travel, places to stay, and everything else for teams coming from different parts of the United States. This support means that students and teachers from middle and high schools can really get into STEM learning and explore cool career possibilities.

“We’re happy to work with the REC Foundation for the Southwest Native American Showcase to give Indigenous youth more chances to learn about computer science and careers,” said Victor Reinoso, who leads Amazon’s education initiatives. “This current group of students will soon be part of a fast-changing workforce that needs creative thinkers. The Showcase is a chance for students to dream big by getting them involved in unique robotics activities that will challenge their problem-solving skills. Through our partnership, we hope to encourage students to lead, break barriers, and make positive changes in their communities and around the world.”

Besides the competition, the REC Foundation is also inviting students and teachers from six Native American school districts in Arizona to check out the robotics program and opportunities. More info about REC Foundation and Amazon Partner to Bring Robotics Fun to Native American Students!
