IFFK celebrates 12 amazing filmmakers: Thiruvananthapuram, the 28th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is all set to honor 12 legends in its special homage category. This section will showcase 11 outstanding films that celebrate the brilliance of well-known artists in the film industry.

The homage category will include the Iranian masterpiece ‘A Minor’ by Dariush Mehrjui, who received a lifetime achievement award in the 19th edition of IFFK.

Sumitra Peries, the first female director from Sri Lanka, will be honored with the screening of her film ‘The Tree Goddess.’

Movies by acclaimed directors K G George and Siddique, and performances by veteran actors Innocent and Mamukkoya from the Malayalam film industry, will also be part of this category.

Notable selections in this lineup include the cult classic ‘Yavanika,’ paying tribute to K G George, and the evergreen hit ‘Ramji Rao Speaking,’ honoring Siddique and Innocent.

‘The Boy and the Heron’ wins the New York Film Critics award for the best-animated film.

Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” won Best Animated Film at the NYFCC Awards. GKIDS acquired the rights to distribute the movie, offering an English-dubbed version or the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The film premiered at TIFF and had a successful release in Japan. Studio Ghibli’s first IMAX production features Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema, and DTS:X formats. It is a touching tale set during World War II, with a captivating score by Joe Hisaishi.

UGC upgrades Madras University to Category-1.

Madras University has been upgraded to Category-1 status by UGC, effective from January 2023, based on improved ratings by NAAC. The university’s score increased from 3.32 to 3.59 in the previous cycle. This upgrade allows Madras University to offer degree programs without prior permission from UGC and makes it eligible for Rs100 crore funding. With this achievement, Madras University joins a select group of state universities with Category 1 status.
