Talking to Pinkvilla, Sriram explained that he needed a unique pair for the story and didn’t want any baggage from previous collaborations. After deciding on Katrina as the lead, he initially asked Saif to be the male lead, but later changed his mind. He considered other actors, but they had already worked with Katrina before. Sriram and Saif had worked together on films like ‘Ek Hasina Thi’ and ‘Agent Vinod,’ and Sriram remembered how disappointed Saif was when he didn’t get the role.
When asked about finding Vijay for the lead role, Sriram shared an interesting story. He met Vijay at an event in Melbourne and watched his film 96 on the way there. Curious about Vijay’s Hindi skills, Sriram found out that he had worked in Dubai for three years.
Sriram is excited to see the on-screen chemistry between Vijay and Katrina in Merry Christmas, set to release in Hindi and Tamil on January 12.
