Situated in Beijing, Xiaomi, a giant in the smartphone world, is also a big deal when it comes to tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and electric scooters worldwide.

They announced in 2021 that they’re getting into electric cars, following the trend of other Chinese tech companies. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s leader, proudly presented the SU7, a fancy sedan set to hit the roads in 2025.

This new car works smoothly with all of Xiaomi’s devices, thanks to its special software. It’s going to be made by a local company called BAIC.

Lei Jun said, “We’re aiming to be one of the top five car makers in the world, but it’s going to take us 15 to 20 years of hard work.”

The SU7’s batteries will come from two big Chinese companies, BYD and CATL.

In China, where everyone loves cars, many top tech companies are putting money into electric cars. In November, BYD sold over 300,000 electric cars, way more than Tesla’s 80,000, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Xiaomi started in 2010 and became popular by selling great devices at good prices online. But in 2021, the United States got a bit suspicious and put Xiaomi on a list because they thought the company had ties to the Chinese military.
